We are happy to announce the third edition of Hjemmefra residency organized by The Union!
Hjemmefra is a virtual residency programme initiated by The Union in 2020. The programme was created within the complex pandemic situation in order to generate a digital community to engage in non-creation, non-production, non-thematic and non-research residency activities.
The second edition (2022) of the residency invited five transdisciplinary artists from the Nordic region to critically rehearse ideas and practices that foster renewed forms of reciprocity, composting, and commoning as forms of resistance, healing, and de-growth.
The term “Hjemmefra” is a Norwegian term that means “from home”, it refers to the concept of starting or departing from one’s home. Within the context of the pandemic, this idea referred to the format of participating from home. Now that we can meet again, we have decided to add a face-to-face instance, which this time will be an invitation to “our home”. We are sure that this will allow a more interactive and collaborative experience to create a temporal community.
For this third edition we have decided to develop a new format which will be based on a 5-day physical meeting in Oslo and surroundings and an online programme. After the experience of the previous residencies and based on the desire and need to return to face-to-face meetings, we propose a hybrid programme that will be focused on a joint experience to be held in late August in Fagerstrand (Nesodden), a small port located south of the city of Oslo. Together, we will activate experiences linked to the concepts of productivity – non-productivity in order to think of strategies to implement the wellbeing of self-employed/ autonomous cultural practitioners.
The theme of the residency continues along the same lines as in previous editions: the dimension of time and resources in our artistic, professional and personal practices. We are interested in developing and putting into action work strategies that help us to manage our time while seeking a balance between work productivity and non-productivity in the personal environment.
In contrast to previous editions, this year instead of an open call, we have thought of exploring a new modality that consists of direct invitation of participants with the idea of forming a group of interdisciplinary practitioners from the Nordic region, who in addition to having individual practices, have the experience of working together, collectively and in relation to other spheres. We are vey happy to announce that John W. Fail (FI), Mathieu Vrijman (SE), Malin Lindmark Vrijman (SE), Robin Frederiksen (DK) and Scott William Raby (US/DK) will be joining us in this edition.
We are also excited to welcome on board of this project our guest curator Maria Alejandra Gatti, joined by members of The Union team Martinka Bobrikova and Oscar de Carmen.
